Marjorie M. H. Fitzgerald Obituary

Marjorie M. H. Fitzgerald, daughter of the late Richard C. and Louise Boston Brown, was born in Annapolis, Maryland on May 3, 1926. She and her eight siblings were raised in a loving Christian home. Marjorie grew up in Annapolis, and received her primary education at Stanton Elementary School and in 1944 graduated from Bates High School. She also attended Cortez Peters Business School in Washington, D.C. She was married to Herbert H. Fitzgerald from 1951 to 1973 and they made their home in Trenton, New Jersey. Marjorie entered into the Arms of God on Sunday, June 29, 2025.  “Good Samaritan” that she was, she may have had at any given time called on or visited daily as many as ten members of her community who were sick and shut in. As she often stated, unless she was sick, dead or had been hit by a bus, she could be depended upon to volunteer and provide any service that she could to those around her.

She was quick to respond, “at’s the Christian thing to do!” For many years she was employed as a teller at Trenton Trust Bank. She also served as an Alcoholism Counselor for S.L.I.A.A. under the auspices of United Progress Inc. After a long career at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, she retired in 1988. Marjorie also volunteered weekly at Capitol Health Medical Center (formerly Mercer Medical Center) from June 1990 until 2022. For thirty-two years, she never took a day during her service as a volunteer. She enjoyed her daily four mile walk through the community.

Marjorie joined Shiloh Baptist Church in 2011 and served faithfully as a Trustee Aid and a member of the Birthday Card Ministry, Senior Choir, Hospitality Ministry, and the
Seniors’ Ministry.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Shirley Douglas (James) and her two children Darrell A. Fitzgerald (Joy) and Denise F. Henderson (Walter); ve grandchildren: Ebony, Shannon (Shameka), Kierston, Shyla and Ryan; eight great grandchildren: Shane, Zuri, SaMiya, Cornel, Devin, Shekinah, Zion, and Shiloh; and three great-great granddaughters: Tyler, Yanira, and Kimora. She also leaves a special son, Renard Smoots and special granddaughters, Ashley and Jasmine Smoots, her longtime devoted friend, Sarah Innis and a myriad of other relatives (nieces, nephews, cousins) and devoted friends.
