Martha Lorine Vickers went home to be with the Lord on November 07, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones at Capital Health Helen Fuld Hosptal.
Martha was born on April 05, 1940, in Columbia, NC where she resided until adulthood. After marrying her late husband Robert Vickers III on October 17, 1959, the two of them decided to make New Jersey their home where they raised all their children and their bonus children.
With many people addressing Martha with one of many names such as Momma, Grandma, Gigi, Aunt Mathy, Ms. Martha, and Mother Vickers she always answered in the same tone of Love and sincerity.
For over 40 years, Ms. Martha was faithfully employed at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center. Her love overflowed to everyone who crossed path with her. Taking care of other people was Martha’s passion so much that after retirement she continued to care for others as a private home health aide to many families for quite some time.
Mother Vickers was a devoted member of Emmanuel Prayer House of Peace where she served faithfully for many years. She was active in the usher board, the women’s auxiliary, and she was always ready to teach a Sunday school lesson. Mother Vickers faith was the foundation of her Life. Mother Vickers lived each day as a reflection of God’s love and grace.
Outside of everyday commitment, Mathi enjoyed spending time with her family by playing Uno, board games, and bingo. But nothing brought her greater joy than being surrounded by family and love.
Martha is predeceased by her husband Robert Vickers III; her loving parents Joe and Truemiller Sykes; three sisters Eva Bowser, Lucy Jennings, Vasslay “Virginia” Andrews and brother Calvin Sykes Sr.; Two sons Robert Dennis and Robert “Eugene” Vickers; her daughter Luvern Vickers-Little (Charles Little); her grandson Quawe Morgan; her son-in-law Tony Sutphin; and her two best friends Annie and Elena.
Mathy will be cherished and remembered by her children Teresa Sutphin, Vickie Vickers, Susan Vickers (Wally Rhiel), and Robert Barbara all of Trenon New Jersy; 16 Grandchildren; 39 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great-great granddaughter; Two sisters Fannie Morris (NC), Recel Bowser (NC) sister-in-law Heddy Sykes (VA) and brother Arnold Sykes (Doris)(NC); Two Godsons Jeffrey Morris, Michael Sykes; and Goddaughter Babbi Harris. Her home girls Joan Rauls and Hillie Spruill. A plentiful host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were blessed by her faith, laughter and love.
