Mary Randall Obituary

Mary Virginia Randall 89 of Trenton, N.J. passed away at home Saturday, March 14, 2020. Born January 11, 1931 in Alexandria, Va. After moving to New Jersey at an early age, Mary received her education at the Old Lincoln School, Trenton and Hamilton School Districts, graduating from Hamilton High School (West) in 1948. Mary continued her education at Mercer County Community College earning an Associate Degree in Applied Science. She furthered her education at Thomas Edison State University earning a certificate in Social Work. Mary’s employment career started with the Board of Education as a Truant Officer for Jefferson Elementary School. She went on to serve 35 years with the State of New Jersey as a Recreational Therapist and Residential Living Specialist for Mental Health at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital retiring in 1993. Mary had a passion for sports excelling in Field Hockey, Softball and Ping Pong. She also loved basketball and was part of the All City Team (Trenton-CYO). Mary was instrumental in providing sporting equipment and organizing softball games during the summer for the neighborhood youth in North Trenton. Mary was largely involved in her community and engaged in political activities working closely with Trenton’s first Black Mayor (Doug Palmer). She also engaged in other activities such as bowling (for various teams), gardening and providing fresh grown vegetables from her garden to family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her mother Thelma Whiteside Ball and father Willie Lee; her husband William A. Randall, and grandson Jaron S. Randall. Mary is survived by two sons, Dennis and Wayne Randall; four daughters, Brenda, Diane, Karen and Theresa Randall; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be private.
