Mary Scott Obituary

Our dearest Mother Mary Ellen Scott was carried away into the eternal peace of the Almighty God on October 11, 2021. She was born on February 24, 1934 in Wilson, NC to Helen Pierce. She was raised by her grandparents, Noah and Lula Rouse in Goldsboro, NC until the age of 18 when she moved to Newark, NJ 

There she met the late Walter Scott and were later joined together in holy matrimony on September 12, 1953. Mother Mary E Scott ac­cepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and has lived a devoted Christian life since that time. Being a military wife she trav­eled and live several places with Walter such as Tucson, Arizona; Watertown, NY; Anchorage, Alaska where they joined the Churches of God in Christ, and finally settling in New Jersey. 

To this union was born one son, Vincent Emanuel Scott who they reared in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. 

Continuing in her membership in the Church of God in Christ, Mother Mary E Scott served in many capacities under the leadership . of Bishop Esau Courtney, Sr at then Holy Trinity, COGIC and now Courtney Temple COGIC, under Elder Esau Courtney, Jr. She sang as one of the lead sopranos in the local, district and state choirs for many years, served as a corresponding secretary, doing missionary work both locally and in Haiti, a pastor's aide captain, district mis­sionary in the Middlesex District along with Superintendent Clinton Love, under Bishop Esau Courtney, Sr and Bishop Martin L. John­son and later in the New Garden State District along with Superin­tendent Esau Courtney, Jr under Bishop Ernest C. Morris, Sr. 

Mother Mary E. Scott loved the Lord and loved serving people. She was very heavily involved in the local, state and district women's department. She taught young women's purity class, bible band, and others. She was also in involved in many auxiliaries. Her life was devoted to serving, teaching and prayer by being an example of a holy woman. 

She leaves to celebrate her memory her only son, Vincent (Katina); four grandchildren, Anastasia, Isaiah, Arrystah and Amiyah; one great-grandson, Avious; one brother Frederick Braswell (Lillian); one niece, Jacqueline and a host of cousins, godchildren and close friends. 

 

Funeral service will be 1pm Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Courtney Temple Church of God, 740 Pennington Ave, Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 11am until the time of service. Interment will be 9:30am Monday, October 25, 2021 at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home.
