Mattie M. Carter

Mattie Mae Carter was born on November 21, 1929, to the late Archie Lee Turner and Ella Mae. Turner. She was the baby of the family and was educated in the Portsmouth, Virginia school system.

Mattie moved to Trenton, New Jersey in 1962, where she resided until her passing.

She gave her life to the Heavenly Father and, being filled with the Holy Spirit, she was a faithful missionary who loved people and was a friend to everyone. To know her was to love her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carter Jr. her parents, Ella Mae and Archie Lee Turner; her brother, John Arthur Turner; her sister, Freddie Ruth Washington; her sons, James Henry Williams and David Allen Winbush: her daughter, Ivory Lorraine Turner; and her granddaughter whom she raised, Denise E. Thompson.

Mattie leaves to cherish her precious memories: her granddaughter and caregiver, Denise (Henry) Hutchins; her son, Philip Winbush; her daughter, Betty Jean Williams; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great- great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly: a special niece and confidante, Helena Betha of Birds Nest, Virginia; a very close friend, Patty of Trenton, New Jersey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her church family.

Funeral service will be 11am Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
