Maxine Oliver

Maxine Marie Oliver was born on May 23, 1944, to the late Alfred & Minnie Oliver in Trenton, NJ. She later relocated and became a lifelong resident of Hamilton Township where she remained for over 45 years. She peacefully departed this life surrounded by loved ones on July 11, 2025, at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell.

Maxine grew up in the Trenton area, where she attended Jefferson Elementary School, Junior High School #3, and Trenton Central High School during her early years. She then went on to study at the historic Cortez Peters School in Washington, DC, one of the first institutions designed to prepare African American students for careers in Business and Civil Service. Following her successful educational journey, Maxine worked at United State Steel (USS) in Fairless Hills, PA, for over 23 years. She later transitioned to the Mercer County Department of Education, where she served as a Certification Specialist. Maxine was frequently recognized for her exceptional work ethic, dedication, and commitment, which exemplified her reliability. After 25 years of service, she retired, embarking on a new chapter while leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

Maxine will be fondly remembered for her passion for gardening, reading, and bargain shopping. She took great pride in her gardening skills and the maintenance of her yard on Williams Street. Her home was known for its stunning flowers and landscaping, making it one of the best-kept on the block—a true reflection of her nurturing nature. In addition, Maxine was an avid reader, devouring novel after novel across various genres, from romance to autobiographies. She was also renowned for her exceptional thrifting and shopping abilities. On many occasions, she could be seen browsing select stores for sales and deals, effortlessly discovering outstanding bargains in the most unexpected places, resulting in unique gifts and stylish clothing. Lastly, Maxine will be especially remembered for her remarkable cooking and baking skills. She found joy in preparing meals and was always eager to share her delicious creations. Some of her family and friends' favorites included lasagna, chili, oatmeal “oaties” cookies, red velvet and carrot cakes.

Maxine was a kind, loving, and caring individual who welcomed many into her home without hesitation or judgment. Her infectious personality will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and her spirit will live on in all of us.

Maxine is predeceased by her parents Alfred and Minnie Oliver; Brothers, Bruce W. Oliver, Alfred L. Oliver; Uncle James T. Oliver; Aunt Hattie Pearl Stokes; Nephews, Bruce (June) Oliver, and Alfred (Bucket) Oliver.

Maxine leaves to cherish her precious memories, beloved daughter; Dana Oliver ; loving granddaughter Courtney “NuNu” Oliver; Sister, Barbara A. Oliver; Sister-in-Laws, Lena Oliver and Rosie Oliver. Additionally, she leaves behind former Son-In-Law Nathaniel Wilkerson; Nephews, Darren Oliver, Tahir Oliver, Ronald Logan; Nieces, Cheryl Oliver, Tameka Oliver, Lisa Logan, and a host of bonus children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be 11am Friday, July 25, 2025 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. S. Howard Woodson Jr Way, Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
