Melvin Bivens

Melvin Gene Bivens was born December 31, 1948 to Rebecca Mitchell Mathis and Edward Bivens.

Melvin attended Beverly Elementary School in Beverly, New Jersey and later graduated from JFK High School in Willingboro, New Jersey, where he participated on the baseball team as a pitcher and the football team as the quarterback. Upon graduation, he then attended Shaw University in North Carolina.

He was a mail clerk for several New Jersey State Departmen ts, and in later years he became a security guard, until health issues prevented him from working.

Melvin attended Macedonia Baptist Church in Beverly, where he was a lifetime member . He was an avid sports fan.

Melvin was predeceased by his father Edward Bivens; four brothers Edward Bivens, James Bivens, Curtis Bivens and Isaac Bivens ; one sister Arabia Corbin.

Melvin's memory will be cherished and forever remembered by his mother

Rebecca Mitchell Mathis; his two sisters Ruth McCoy and Evelyn Black; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 10am Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave, Trenton, NJ 08618.  Calling hour will be 9am until the time of service.  Interment will be at Colonial Memorial Park, Trenton, NJ.
