Mildred Manning Obituary

Mildred C. Manning, 85, was born on April 12, 1935 in Cherry Hill NJ and passed away peacefully at home in Trenton, NJ on Sunday, October 18, 2020 with her husband by her side.

Mildred graduated from Camden County Vocational & Technical School in Pennsauken, NJ in 1953 where she began her career as a professional seamstress, dedicating over 40 years of employment to Bonnell Dress Company. Mildred was an accomplished seamstress, producing clothing for men and women, boys and girls of all ages for retailers including, Macy's, Bamberger's, Sears, JC Penney's, Lord & Taylor and more. Following retirement, she later began an at-home daycare center, where she cared for and helped to raise many children within her family, church and local community.

She was a woman of God, serving as a member of the Bethel AME Church in Pennsauken, NJ, the Sunday School Superintendent, Director of the Youth Choir and lead Soprano in the Senior Choir, as well as the "jazzier Chapel Choir". Mildred later became a founding member and consecrated steward of Ujima Christian Church, always seeing to the needs of her Pastor in her earlier years which later bestowed upon her the honor of the Pastors Aide Ministry being renamed as the "Mother Mildred Manning Pastor's Aide Ministry" in 2017. She was a dedicated member of the Women of Nia Ministry, lead soprano in the Ujima Adult Choir and formed and directed the first Ujima Youth Choir. She was a Sunday School teacher, founder of the Sunshine Ministry, which provided support to the sick, shut-in and bereaved, and a member of the Recreation Ministry, where she could always be counted on to bring her Scrabble and other games to fellowship events, as if something important was at stake to lose!

Mildred's light shined brightest amongst her friends and family. She was a strong, loving and nurturing woman, with a positive and profound impact on all her family as a wife, mother and grandmother. She truly enjoyed her daily devotionals and time with God, a traditional Sunday dinner with family, long chats on the front porch, playing card games, checkers and dominos, putting together difficult puzzles, and her favorite tv shows, Price is Right, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Mildred joins in heaven, her parents, Frank Pritchett Sr. and Minnie Pritchett siblings, Frank Pritchett Jr., Lillian Pritchett, David Pritchett, and daughter, Constance Pritchett and leaves to cherish and honor her memory, her husband of 36 years, Charles Manning, her children, Phillip Pritchett, Brian Manning, Chastity Manning and Giovanni Manning, grandchildren, Colin Hayman, Ethan Pritchett, Gianni Manning and Xavier Manning, brother-in-law, Carrington Jenkins, two sisters-in-Iaw, Youla Pritchett and Iris Pritchett, nieces, Carole Jenkins-White, Teresa Pritchett, Sharon Alston, Lynice Pritchett, nephews, David Pritchett, Frank Pritchett, friends, Linda Rogers and Natasha McCrae, who was like a daughter to Mildred, along with a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and other close relatives.

Though we may miss her, we are happy for Mildred as not only has she passed on to be with her maker, she will be reunited with her parents, daughter and siblings, particularly her sister and best friend, Lillian.
