Mildred V. Brandon

Mildred Verdell Brandon, born January 1st, 1948, to the late Pastor Izell Montgomery, Sr. of Stark, Florida & the late Helen Adele Montgomery-Smith, of Perry, Fl, was born the second oldest of 10 and the oldest daughter. She would remember how her mother would remind all of her children how strong their personalities were and the special gifts they all had. Mother Helen gracefully said to her children, “I just put them in the hands of the Lord and told them whatever you want to do, you can do it”. This is the beginning of Mildred’s life being grounded and built on Love, Faith, and Devoted Service, not just to her family but to anyone who crossed her path. She made sure no one left her presence less than how they came to her. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Baptist Church in Cranbury, New Jersey. She began her service and membership under the Late Pastor Elizabeth Jordan and continued her membership and service under Pastor Ralph McDonald. She also maintained a hometown membership at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under her brother’s pastoral leadership, Pastor Izell Montgomery Jr.

If you ask Mildred what her greatest accomplishment has been in this journey, she would say raising her children and being able to give them great experiences as a single mother. She moved from Florida to New Jersey on faith, belief, good friends, and family blessings. She retired from the State of New Jersey Department of Corrections, Northern State Prison, and enjoyed spending time taking care of others, buying flowers, gardening, and talking to her long-time friends and family. Mildred lived a long, beautiful life and took her rest on May 6th, 2025.

Mildred’s legacy remains with her three children: Stephanie Brandon, Michael Brandon ( Braunwynn Brandon) and Erika Laws (John Laws), 4 grandchildren: Ashleie Gordy, Michael Gordy (Lisette Ramirez- Gordy), Corey Staples and Matthew Staples ( Abbie Staples) and 2 great grand children; Jezariah Gonsalves- Gordy and Tristen Gordy and a great granddaughter, Milani Gordy arriving September 2025.

Mildred's NJ Viewing is scheduled on Monday, May 19th, 2025, from 4-7 pm at Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, located at 20 States Street, Jamesburg, New Jersey 08831.

Florida Viewing is scheduled on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1014 E. Green Street, Perry, Florida 32347.

Viewing times for family are from 4-5 pm and for the public, 5-6 pm. Funeral and Burial are scheduled on Sunday, May 25th, 2025, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church located at 1149 W. Hampton Springs Avenue, Perry, Florida 32347. Service begins at 3 pm.
