Miriam Monet Reed, affectionately known as “Mimi”, departed this side of heaven on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, Mimi was known and loved by many. She attended Princeton Day School where she not only advanced academically but also developed a keen eye for photography and the love for writing poetry. Mimi went on to earn a degree in Communications from Syracuse University, and pursued studies towards a Masters in Communications at Boston University. While at Syracuse she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Kappa Lamba Chapter. She loved being a part of the sisterhood and cherished her relationship with her Line Sisters.
No matter where she was, Mimi maintained her commitment to community and serving those in need. She was particularly passionate about helping youth and teens find their voice and develop life skills. Following in the footsteps of her mother Gwen, Mimi decided to pursue a career in education. She held teaching positions in Charter Schools in north Jersey and in Trenton Public Schools, in addition to serving as a Nanny caring for young children.
Mimi’s bright smile and contagious laugh would light up any room she entered. She was a warm-hearted, giving soul who was always willing to lend a hand and help anyone who needed anything. She would give even if she didn’t have much herself, she would always “figure something out” so that she could help make it better for someone else. She deeply desired to make a difference in the lives of others. Her laugh, her love, and her light will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Mimi is pre-deceased by her father, Garrett E. Reed, Jr. and her mother, Gwendolyn C. Reed, and her niece Kimari Reed. She leaves behind to cherish her fond memories two Brothers: Michael D. Reed (Keenan), James R. Reed (Kim); one sister: Jacqueline R. Belk Scott (JaBrai); an Aunt, Linda Snead Adelaja (Bayo), an Uncle, Tsombawi Knibye, Sr. (Kimmie); a Great Aunt, Jean Wooding; and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews, extended family, and friends.
Rest now Mimi, we love you.
A Memorial service will be 1pm Friday, September 24, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. A private service for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and immediate family will be held from 12pm – 12:45pm, on the 24th prior to the Memorial Service.
