Moses Edward Whitfield, Jr. was born May 14th, 1942, to Mattie and Moses Whitfield, Sr. in Blakely, Georgia , e a child, his family moved to Trenton, NJ where he was educated in the Trenton Public School System. As a young man Moses was called to serve his country, as a member of the United States Marines. He successfully completed boot camp training, received the honorary solider award and was honorably discharged from his military service. After his service, he began his employment at Delorenzo Waste, which later became biter state Waste and lastly Waste Management. Moses loved his job and took pride in what he did for over 43 years before retiring in September of 2013.
Moses was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed everything sports. His favorite football team was the Philadelphia Eagles. He also spent his time traveling to different football and basketball games with family. In his later years he became very knowledgeable in politics, kept up to date with current events and technology He also enjoyed going to Atlantic City, playing the lottery, and scratch off's.
On Monday, August 21st, 2023, Moses departed this life of labor at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Browns Mils, NJ. He was a man with a big heart who enjoyed helping and spending time with his family. He carried soft spot for his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When speaking with Moses, his community could always find a story or word of advice accompanied by an unforgettable smile and a hearty laugh. ll these precious moments shared with Moses, will be forever cherished by those who had the opportunity to meet, know and love him.
Moses was predeceased by his parents Mattie and Moses Whitfield, Sr, one sister Esther Thompson, three aunts Amanda Shipp, Ethel Scott, Vera Murkey, and one sister-in-law Anna Whitfield.
He will be forever remembered by his lifelong companion Janet Reeves. four daughters Tracey Daniels, Terrie Whitfield, Tenya Lee, West Virginia Whitfield [Willam), and one son Timothy (Tyra) Whitfield. His twelve grandchildren, Craig Jr., Janae, Jamel. Amaris. Jordan.Whitney, Jada, Janaya, Jalen, Timothy Jr., Syhied, and Gianna. His five great-grandchildren, Marleigh, Carter, Korin, Londyn, and Jayce , Two brothers, Maurice (Nicole) Whitfield and Emanuel Whitfield and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins, friends and extended family members.
Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Change Church, 200 Ludlow Dr., Ewing, NJ 08638. Calling hour will be 10am until time of service. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home.
