Naomi Henderson Obituary

Naomi M. Henderson was born October 17, 1949 to the late Deacon Henry Oscar Martin and Clara Bell Martin in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1969, she married Clifford E. Henderson, Sr. and
relocated to New Jersey. Naomi was employed at Educational Testing Services for over a decade. She made a mark in the community by working with the Board of Elections, the democratic party, local churches and community events in the Florence area. Her door was open to anyone in need. She always reminded people of opportunities and events happening locally. She enjoyed visiting different churches for service and traveling "home" to Alabama whenever possible. Even when her vision prevented her from driving, she spent her days on the phone checking in with people she loved.

Her children, Ursula and Clifford (Shooby) have cherished memories of Naomi being with them on joyous occasions and helping during difficult days. Naomi was instrumental in raising
her granddaughter, Shalita, almost from birth. As her family grew, her grandchildren and great grandchildren became the great joy in her life. Naomi's family far exceeded those in her household.

Friends and neighbors would often regard her as "Mom" because of her lasting impression on them. If you were a friend to her children or grandchildren, she always made time to talk and make you feel like family.

Naomi confessed her love for Christ at an early age and attended the 17th Street A.O.H. Church of God in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1976, she joined Greater Faith Tabernacle, U.H.C. then under the leadership of Elder George W. Carthan. She was an active member in the church working with the Senior Usher Board and helping to organize the Junior Usher Board. She was influential in getting the children to the convocation and Tri Cord. Naomi was involved in many committees at Greater Faith Tabernacle including Women's Day, Missionaries, Pastor's Aide, Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and she often helped in the kitchen when an extra hand was needed. Naomi also planned the yearly calendar and could recall dates and traditions to help organize each special event. She had close relationships with members of the Boone, Carthan and Munn families. Deacon Elvin McDuffie had a special place jn Naomi's heart, as he would drive her to church as often as possible. She was a faithful and devoted member of GFT until she departed this life on Friday, January 7, 2022.

She was predeceased in death by her parents; husband, Clifford E. Henderson, Sr.; eldest son, Darrell Fletcher; sister, Mary E.
Jiles.

Naomi leaves to cherish her memories: One son, Clifford E. (Angela) Henderson, Jr., of Roebling, New Jersey; one daughter, Ursula M. Henderson-Webb of Marlton, New Jersey; one daughter in-law, Kischia Fletcher of Birmingham, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Cornelius D. Paige, Shalita La'Shea Henderson, Sean J. Harris, Darrell Fletcher, Jr., Jvah Fletcher, John Marshall Fletcher, Isaiah E. Henderson, and Ava Naomi Henderson; 12 great grandchildren, Madyson Panniel, Taylor Bennett, Kingston Paige, Tayveon McDowell, Myami Williford, Maygan Williford, Anthony Rodriguez, Amora Harris, Ariana Harris, Aliyah Harris, Darrell Fletcher, III, and DeAndrew Fletcher.

Sisters Vicena (Alfonzo) Nunn, Jr., Lucille M. Harris; sisters-in-law, Deborah J. Henderson and LaSonja (Fred) Rowell; brothers-in-law Albert L. Henderson and Manuel C. (Mildred)
Henderson, Jr. Best Friend, Rebecca Evans, Goddaughters Priscilla Poole, Dorethea Hancock, Dorethea Braxton and her loving daughter Alexis Fisher as well as a host of caring nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

As Naomi cared for the babies in the family, she could often be heard singing,

"Hallelujah, anyhow,

Never let your troubles get you down.

When life troubles come your way-

Hold your head up high and say - Hallelujah anyhow."
