Philippe Mahotiere Obituary

With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Philippe Jean Pierre Mahotiere, 71, of Princeton, NJ, who went home to the Lord on August 4, 2025.

Philippe was born in Jacmel, Haiti on May 18, 1954.  He attended school in Haiti, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering before later continuing his studies at Mercer County Community College in New Jersey. In his early years, he worked for Télé-Haïti, a television station that connected people through news and culture. After moving to the United States, he worked in the hospitality industry, as well as with a local taxi company. In 2007, Philippe’s hard work and determination led him to open his own taxi business, which he ran with dedication until his retirement.

Beyond his career, Philippe’s true joy came from his family and his faith. A devoted Catholic, he lived his life with humility, kindness, and a steady devotion to those he loved. He was happiest when surrounded by family, sharing stories, laughter, and meals that brought everyone together. His quiet strength, warm smile, and generous spirit touched all who knew him.

Philippe leaves behind his beloved wife, Gerda Mahotiere; his children, Fabiola, Philippe Jr., and Peter; his daughter-in-law, Miranda; and his cherished granddaughter, Olivia, who brought him immeasurable joy. He will also be deeply missed by his siblings, Sonia and Roseline, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were blessed to be part of his life.

He was welcomed into eternal rest by his parents, Tervius Mahotiere and Vernelie Pierre; his brothers, Jean Benite and Ismael Mahotiere; his sister, Jacqueline Mahotiere; and his cherished childhood caretaker, Mrs. Lamame.

A funeral mass celebrating Philippe’s life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 626 S. Olden Avenue, Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Colonial Memorial Park, Trenton, NJ.

Philippe’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and faith. He built a life rooted in devotion to his family and community, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
