Phyllis Corinne Boyer Wood, affectionately known as “PB” and “Mimi” passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Shirley “Chip” Boyer and Dorothy Rose Nevius and sister of the late Allan Bergen Boyer.
Born in Trenton, NJ, on November 9, 1949, she lived most of her life in Pennington, NJ with some time in Pennsylvania.
Phyllis graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School and immediately started her secretarial career at American Cyanamid. Over the years she held positions at Mathematica, Gillespie Advertising and Champale Inc. She retired after many years of service with the Trenton School Board, where she served as Secretary to the Superintendent. Her personality, grace and kindness forged cherished life-long friendships everywhere she worked.
Phyllis was a child of God and extremely strong in her faith. She was a longtime member of 2nd Calvary Baptist Church in Hopewell, NJ under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Ronald L. Owens. She was a member of the choir and enjoyed travelling on church trips. She later became a member of 1st Baptist Church in Pennington, NJ where she was a member of the trustee board and choir. Before her passing she was blessed to serve under the leadership of Reverend Wallace Benson. Phyllis also served as a long-term trustee for the Pennington African Cemetery Association.
Phyllis was without a doubt a social butterfly. She was an avid bowler, having participated in several leagues in the area. She loved the Jersey Shore and trips to the casino. She had a love for Pokeno, playing with a cutthroat, close-knit group of ladies once a month where games lasted well past everyone’s bedtime! Some of her favorite times of the year were annual trips to Maryland and to the Hampton Jazz Festival in Virginia. She treasured her membership in an exclusive circle of women called ‘The Girls Club’. This extraordinary group, including some of her oldest friends and closest cousins, supported each other and formed an unbreakable bond of friendship & love through laughter, joy, sorrow and everyday life.
Phyllis’ dedication to God and family allowed her to love, pray and play fiercely.
Predeceased by her husband Paul L. Wood, mother-in-law Elease Estelle Wood, she is survived by her daughters Jill Boyer, Leslie “Chick” Wood Andretti, and son-in-law Chad Curry, son Derrick Wood, and her 3 heartbeats, grandsons Cole Boyer, Jacob Boyer and Lucca Andretti.
She is also survived by a host of family she considered friends and friends she loved as
family.
