Rhonda Y. Hunter

Rhonda Yvette Hunter (Seabrooks) was a smart, kind, caring, loving, resilient and wonderful Mother, Daughter, Sister, Niece, Auntie, and Cousin who we were all blessed to know and love in this lifetime. Always loved since birth, Rhonda was such a special blessing to us and brought so much joy to our family. She loved to dance and sing at such an early age and amazingly at age two, Rhonda would memorize the books read to her and we thought that she was actually reading - so clever - which made us smile.

Rhonda was born in Bridgeport, CT on November 3, 1965, and graduated from Jonathan Law High School in Milford, CT where she excelled as an athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball, earning many athletic awards. She graduated from the Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia where she met her husband, Anthony Hunter, and married in 1989.

Ater moving to Ewing, NJ, Rhonda and Hunter (as he was called) raised two boys, Anthony and Elijah, who were surrounded with much love and support from family and community.

Rhonda worked for Bloomberg L.P. and the State of New Jersey until retirement due to health issues and courageously managed those challenges for several years with resilience and incredible strength and her trust in God.

Rhonda loved our Barnett Family Reunions and served on the Planning Committee for many years.

Rhonda was a woman of great Faith and love for God and His Word. She attended the New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NJ) and was a member of Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church for over 30 years. She actively served on the Steward Board, as a Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, with the Dance Ministry, Treasurer, Fellowship Ministry, Food Pantry, Sisters United Class Leader, and faithful to the ANEW Way Ministries Bible Study.

Rhonda was preceded in death by her husband of almost 27 years, Anthony Hunter of NJ; Maternal Grandparents, Clarence and Louise (Nana) Barnett (VA/CT); and Aunts: Leticia Taylor (GA), Louise Fairfax (VA/NC), Connie Duarte (CT), and Uncle Michael Barnett (CT).

She is survived by her sons: Anthony (Nicole) of PA and Elijah of NJ; Mother: Maxine Seabrooks of PA; Aunts: Marie Barnett (Harold) of NY; Madelene Barnett of NJ; Renee Barnett Terry (Billy) of CA; and Beverly Benn (Robert) of FL; Uncles: Melvin Barnett (Ernestine) of MD; Clarence Barnett (Faye) of OH; and Malcolm Barnett (Annie) of Mainaschaff, Germany. Additionally, Rhonda had the loving support of the Hunter Family of (GA/NJ) and is survived by many Family members and community.

Rhonda has many cousins and friends who she loved and cared for deeply with her big heart and you know who you are - hopefully those memories of good times together with her will remain forever in your heart.

Rhonda Yvette Hunter - Always remembered, forever loved and will never ever be forgotten.

Funeral service will be 1pm Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Grant Chapel AME Church, 261 Mercer St., Trenton, NJ 08611. Calling hours will be 11am until the time of service. Interment will be at 10:30am Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
