Richard Francis Hammonds beloved father son brother, uncle and friend was born on November 24, 1963 in Newark New Jersey to the late Choyce and Charlie Mae Hammonds. On April 1, 2025 Richard peacefully entered into God's care in Trenton, New Jersey, where he had lived for over 25 years and built many lasting friendships.
Richard was educated in the Newark Public School System. In the mid-1980s, he proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years, a time that helped shape his strength, discipline, and quiet resilience.
Richard was known for his big heart, his easygoing spirit, and the love he had for his family and friends. He especially cherished his role as a father, leaving behind his beloved son, Lamar Richard Hammonds.
He was preceded in death by several beloved siblings, James, Raafi Gilbert, Wayne, Rosalee Hammonds and Carolyn Bey whose memories he carried with him always. A proud and loyal Dallas
Cowboys fan, Richard never missed a game and could often be found cheering on his team with passion-win or lose. His love for football was only matched by the joy of sharing it with the people he cared about.
Richard's memory will live on through the laughter he brought, the stories he told, and the unconditional love he gave.
He leaves behind his two devoted brothers, Randolph and Robert Hammonds (Althea); a special niece, Shaheerah, who held a dear place in his heart; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him deeply!
An Open Mic Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 1pm until the time of service. Interment will be private.
