Robert W. Gillard Sr.

Robert W. Gilliard, Sr. was born February 5, 1931, in Lavonia Georgia, to Hytha and Clarence Gilliard. At a early age he moved from Lavonia Georgia to New Jersey where was educated in the Hamilton Township School District.

Robert was a self-employed contractor over 50 years.

He enjoyed spending countless hours in the library reading. His favorite book was the greatest book of all times “The Bible”. His passion for reading the bible was evident in his conversations with family and friends.

Robert had a great sense of humor, which resonated laughter in all who came in contact with him.

On September 9, 2021, Robert transitioned from this life to eternal life at Capital Health Hopewell. He will be greatly missed.

He was predeceased by his mother and father Hytha and Clarence Gilliard, wife Marion E. Gilliard, Brothers: George Gilliard, Carnell Gilliard, Charles Ray Gilliard, and William Rice, sister: Catherine Rice-Brown.

Robert is survived by sister: Hattie J. Gilliard, sister-in-law: Joan Gilliard, sister-in-law: Dolores Staton-Murray, brother-in-law: Walter Brown, children, daughter: Colleen Gilliard, sons: Robert W. Jr, (Janice), Carl (Irene), Charles E., Arnold J., and Clifford E. Gilliard, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great- Great Grandchildren, uncle, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He has fought a good fight, finished his course, and has kept the faith.

Funeral service will be 1pm Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of service.  Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
