Rodney D. Kidd

On Thursday, April 08, 2021 at the Lawrenceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lawrenceville, N.J. our beloved Rodney D. Kidd Sr. walked with his lord and savior as he departed from this life after 85 years. He entered this world on Thursday, September 10th, 1936 in Princeton, N.J. to the union of Sidney and Lonella Kidd. He resided in the Mercer County area his entire life. He was educated in the Princeton Public School system where he excelled in academics and his passion for basketball, in which he played with the varsity team. He was a proud member of the graduating class of 1953. During a tenure of employment with Princeton University he met his lifelong love, Jean Kidd to whom he married for over 63 years. They raised their family in the communities of Hightstown and Ewing Township, N.J.

Mr. Kidd as he was popularly known, was embraced by all for his witty sense of humor, his keen intellect and a uniquely kindness of heart. He was honorable member of the illustrious “Khufu Temple #120”. He was an avid reader, a historian and a sharp source for trivia. Fishing, Chess and Checkers were a consistent desire, however an episode of Jeopardy was equally satisfying. Rodney was never at a lost for a wise word or sound advice.

After a 30 year tenure He retired from the New Jersey State Police Bureau as a State Security Officer.

Rodney was predeceased by his parents Sidney and Lonella Kidd Sr., his wife of 63 years Jean Kidd, 4) brothers: Sidney Jr., Richard, Lewis “Red Top”, Goldman, and 1) sister Clementine.

Rodney shall be forever cherished in memory by his children daughters Gail Clark, Whitney Fireall (Emmitt) and Teresa Kidd all of Trenton, N.J. his son Rodney Kidd Jr. Mr. Kidd also raised his grandson Kyle Kidd, granddaughter Monique Kidd and great-granddaughter Briasia Smith as his very own. He affectionately loved, cared for and enjoyed a life with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, the many caregivers and friends alike.

An Open Mic Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 5-6pm at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling time will be 4:30 -5pm.   Interment will be private.
