Ruby Frances Morton was born April 19, 1939 in Aiken, South Carolina to the late Croft Johnson and Beatrice Rouse. She was called home on May 30, 2025. At an early age, Ruby joined the Zion Field Baptist Church in Aiken, SC. After moving to New Jersey, she became a member of Second Baptist Church in Mount Holly, NJ. She later moved to Ewing Township where she became a member of St. John's Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess Board.
Ruby attended Storm Branch Academy and Pleasant Hill Elementary schools in Aiken, South Carolina. After moving to New Jersey at the age of 7, she attended the Milton H. Allen school in Medford, NJ. Ruby graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mt. Holly, NJ. She also attended BMS in Philadelphia and Mercer County Community College.
Ruby worked for Hit Brothers Department Store in Philadelphia. She then worked for the state of New Jersey for nearly 50 years. Ruby was active in the Ewing Township community where she was a member of the Ewing Community Club and served as the executive secretary of the Hollowbrook Community Center.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Ulysses Morton Jr.; her loving grandparents Earl J. and Allene Wimberly; her parents and several brothers and sisters.
She leaves to mourn her one and only beloved son, Calvin Jeffrey Morton Sr. of Suffolk, VA (Latricia); granddaughters Candis Ames-Morton of Petersburg, VA, Latitia Orange of Richmond, VA; grandsons Calvin Jeffrey Morton Jr. of Suffolk, VA, Frank Orange of Palmyra, PA and Kim Orange Jr. of Richmond, VA; a stepson Bruce Thompson; she also leaves to mourn her sisters Audrey Long (Bill), Velma Howard (Johnnie), Barbara Johnson; brothers Billy Johnson, Butch Johnson, Ricky Johnson, Kenny Johnson; brother-in-law, Robert Morton; sister-in-law Lottie Morton; best friends Marcia McEntyre, Bonnie Sanders, Rose Jackson and Odessa Whitfield; along with a host of uncles, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one goddaughter, Ray Ellen Tussell; godsons Rev. Irving Fryar and Mark Whitfield.
Funeral service will be 11am Monday, June 16, 2025 at St. John's Baptist Church, 70 Oregon Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638 . Calling hour will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be 9:30am Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, Pa.
