Rutledge Davis, Jr. affectionately known as “Fillmore Dave”, 80 of Trenton, NJ passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his home. He was born in Eufaula, Alabama on January 18, 1943, to the late Rutledge Davis, Sr. and Ruth Mae Hoskey. After his mother passed away at birth, he was raised by his late father and late stepmother, Luvernia Streeter Davis.
Rutledge was educated in Barbour County, AL School District. As a young man, he worked the fields with his father. In 1969, he moved to Trenton, NJ, where he remained a longtime resident. Rutledge retired from the U.S. Steel Corporation of Pennsylvania after 20+ years of service as a Pipefitter and Local 595 as a Laborer with over 10 years of service.
Rutledge loved fishing and being on his fruit stand at Fillmore Street & North Clinton Avenue. He brought fresh produce and flowers to his beloved extended family and friends of Trenton, New Jersey, and afar.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife of 57 years, Jeannie Davis of Trenton, NJ; eight children: Jackie Williams (Phil) of Alabama, Rutledge Davis III (Micky) of Georgia, James Davis of New Jersey, Georgette Johnson (Douglas) of Pennsylvania, Dr. Andrew Davis of Georgia, Kelvin Davis (Shantrice) of Pennsylvania, Jeannie Davis of New Jersey, and Moe Davis (Corinne) of Pennsylvania; a brother, Shelley Davis of New York; his mother-in-law, Georgia Benning of New Jersey; two brothers-in-law, James (Tonya) Fluellen of North Carolina and David (Janice) Fluellen of New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Gail Fluellen of New Jersey; 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Mary "SugaBabe" Malone of Alabama; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 1pm Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Calvary Christian Fellowship Ministries, 611 Parkway Ave., Ewing, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
