Samuel Hodge Obituary

Samuel Lee Hodge was born on September 11, 1954 to the late Oscar and Verna Mae Hodge and departed this life on August 28th. He was a lifelong resident of Trenton and received his formal education through the Trenton Public School System.   Sam loved life and made a point to live it to the fullest as best he could. He was a fun and carefree guy and was well known throughout the city.  He was a people person who loved to laugh and have a good time.  He was a constant fixture on the Downtown Trenton Commons scene where he could often be seen hanging with his crew.  

Sam was predeceased by both parents, Oscar William and Verna Mae Hodge; sisters, Willie Mae Fentress and Shirley Minor; a brother, Oscar Hodge; a daughter, Tracey Johnson and grandsons, Ronqua Brown, KI’yon Ellerbe and Breon Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Letitia Martin; two bonus sons, Corey Martin and Abdul Fleming; brothers, William Collins and Lawrence Hodge; sisters, Mary Grier (Freddie) and Johnnie Mae Smith; grandchildren, Maurice, Trachele (Tamica), Brittany (Chanirah), Nasir, Tiyanna, Elijah, Siani, Liabron and Iversen; great grandchildren, Briyon, Jazani, Samir, Sanea, Bre’Asia, Donte, Breon and Ingland; a longtime girlfriend, Betty Willis; special friends, Caretha Jeter, Nate Davis and his “Downtown” buddies; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends

Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 150 North Clinton Ave., Trenton NJ 08609.  Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Colonial Memorial Park, Hamilton, NJ.  Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home.
