Sandy McCallum who was sometimes called "Bill" or "Shorty", was born on June 27, 1942 to the late Augusta and Ruth Lee McCallum. Sandy departed his life on March 28, 2021 at home around his family. Sandy moved to Trenton, NJ in 1968 from North Carolina working for Hills Refrigeration for decades. Sandy later relocated to Richmond, VA with his employer Hills Refrigeration who renamed their company to Hills Phoenix to Train Hired Workers. Sandy was also known for his mechanism in repairing cars. Anything that was repairable he would fix. He was knowledgeable in blueprints. Show him a blueprint and he would tell you what to do. Sandy was also a member of the Progressive Club located on Martin Luther King Blvd. He also was an assistant coach for the PBA youth baseball team. In his spare time, he would sit in his back yard with his buddy the late Robert Thomas (Mr. Skip aka Pop Pop) working on a car or a motor. His other hobbies were fishing and gardening.
In addition to his parents, Sandy McCallum was predeceased by his wife Ella McCallum, one son, Arthaniel McCallum of Columbus, OH; twa grandsons, Marquel Williams and Zyair McCallum, three brothers Augusta "June" McCallum Jr. (Gladys), Joseph Wilson Alford (Betty) and Cleveland McCallum (Diane); one sister, MaryJane McKinley (Mitchell); and the man's best friend his dog, TJ.
Sandy leaves to cherish his memories to his children, Sedalia Green (Mark Hall) of Bensalem, PA, Darlene McCallum (Raymond Davis) Billy McCallum (Carmen Caine), Donna Freeman, Tremayne Freeman and Ben McCallum all of Trenton, NJ: Sandy's heart was filled with joy of being around his 14 grandchildren, Jacobie Green, Shykeya, Juquan and Jykeem McCallum, Kevin and Kendra Green, Keira Mighty Khajia McCallum, Dashi Owens, Eric Moore, Mark Anthony Hall Anaja Pyles, Jah McCallum, and Leighton McCallum, he was given the energy to live through the gift of his 10 loving great grandchildren, Tajon Wadley, Tanajay McCallum, Ainghe Jackson, Ja'Shawn Hale, Evin Green, Kevin Green, Jr., Devin Green, Lamar Green, Aiyden Mighty, and Ashton Mighty, Sandy was loved by his three brothers and two sisters, Howard (Jeanette) McCallum of Trenton, NJ, William (Mildred) McCallum of Trenton, NJ, Elizabeth McCallum of Columbia, SC, James (Connie) McCallum of Rowland, NC, and Beatrice McCallum Belin of Dillon, SC; u special niece, Monica McCallum-Owens (Charlie Brown) a special friend, Rufus Hamilton, a son he picked up along the way Albert Toney of Petersburg, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 10am Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing, NJ.
