Sara Richardson

With hearts filled with gratitude for a life well-lived and a faith well-kept, we celebrate the life and legacy of Pastor Sara Richardson, who peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 15, 2026, at the age of 94, at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell in Pennington, New Jersey.

Born on August 7, 1931, in St. Matthews, South Carolina, Sara was the beloved daughter of Julian and Mayzell Jenkins. She graduated from Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina, in 1948. Following graduation, she relocated to New York to stay with family. Though she appreciated the opportunity, city life was not quite suited to her country roots. When her brother, Julius, visited her, she packed her belongings and moved with him to New Jersey, where she resided for a year.

Later, Sara moved to Pennsylvania after accepting a position as a live-in nanny. After a year, she returned to New Jersey, where she met the love of her life, Joseph D. Richardson. The two were united in holy matrimony in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1952. Together they built a loving family and shared many years of devotion, raising five children.

A dedicated and diligent worker, Pastor Sara served faithfully for twenty-five years as a Senior Clerk with the Department of State. Throughout her working years, she also held positions with Arnold Constable and worked as a counter clerk and waitress.

Pastor Sara's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to God. Over the years, she worshipped and served as a faithful member of St. John's Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, Greater Faith Tabernacle, Spotlight Holy Temple, and ultimately Healing Waters World Church.

Known affectionately by many as "Mother Sara," she possessed a steadfast faith, a powerful prayer life, and a deep love for God's Word. She faithfully ministered to family, friends, church members, and even strangers, offering encouragement, wisdom, and heartfelt intercession. Her life was a testimony to holiness, compassion, and devotion to Christ.

In the latter years of her life, Pastor Sara faithfully served as an Assistant Pastor on "The Prayer Line," where she became known and loved by many for her fervent prayers, words of encouragement, and unwavering faith. Through her faithful weekly ministry over many years, she touched countless lives, interceding for those in need and faithfully pointing others toward God through prayer and the Word.

Outside of church, Pastor Sara found joy in crocheting, caring for plants, reading her Bible, and ministering to others. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and words of wisdom left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph D. Richardson; her parents, Julian and Mayzell Jenkins; her daughters, Cheryl L. Woodall and Vera L. Fulwood; and her son, Joseph B. Richardson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Elizabeth Richardson; her devoted son, Michael A. Richardson; her sister, Helen Kelly; along with a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, church family, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and faith.

Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 10am until the time of the service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
