Sarah Gerturde Craig Inniss was born June 27, 1936, in Trenton, NJ. She graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1954. Sarah had leading singing roles in the school Operetta’s and as a young adult, she sang throughout Trenton at weddings, fashion shows, funerals, to name a few. At the age of 15 years old, she received a four-year scholarship for voice lessons at the Trenton Conservatory of music from the Fai-Ho-Cha Club, Inc.
Sarah was baptized at the age of 12 years old at Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.S. Grayson. In 1994, she joined Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Keith A. Marshall. She sang with the Sanctuary Choir, was head of the Church nursery for 10 years, chairperson of Unity Day (twice) coordinated church weddings, church secretary a few years and became a Deaconess in 2003.
Sarah coordinated many bus trips to Disney World and cruises for family and friends. In 2011 she won the first Mercer County Senior America Pageant. Sarah started working right out of high school at the age of 19 years old. Donnelly Memorial Hospital, E.R. Squibb and Sons, General Motors, Westside Pharmacy, Westinghouse, Day care for children in her home. Her last job at the age of 85, as a bus aide for the Trenton Board of Education for 4 years.
Sarah was married to John M. Adams, Sr. and blessed with four sons. She later married George Inniss and the marriage ended in 2013.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Peyton Sr. and Elizabeth Craig, brothers, Donald, Peyton Jr., James Sr. and John Craig, her sister Virginia Craig Thomas, two grandsons Kris Matthews and Jared Anderson, and two bonus daughters Donna Driver and Patricia Miller.
Sarah leaves to cherish her memories her sons: Donald Adams, John Adams Jr. (Catherine), Gary Adams, and James Adams; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers, Grayson Craig and Peyton Pinkston; her Aunt Lois Craig Moss; her niece/daughter, Leslie Jones; her godson, Steven Craig Byrd; her goddaughters, Sarah Cox, Mia Mathis, Tiffany Moore, and Bria Anderson; her cousins, Pamela Billups, Martique Branch, and Jerome Yates; her number one friend, Jean Kelly; 10 “daughters of her heart”; nine “Golden Friends”; plus one PDS (you all know who you are). She also leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, along with her Macedonia Baptist Church family, Union Baptist Church family, and the neighbors and friends of the 700 block of Edgewood Avenue, where she lived for over 60 years.
Funeral service will be 11am Friday, March 20, 2026 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1300 Greenwood Ave., Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
