When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.
Saundra M. West 77, of Trenton, New Jersey passed away May 10,2022, with her family by her side. Saundra was predeceased by her father, Russell Holland her mother, Carolyn Holland, both of Asbury Park, New Jersey; brothers, Gregory Holland of Trenton, New Jersey, Kenyard Holland of Laurel, Maryland, Curtis Holland of Kansas City, Missouri, Sebastian Holland of Durham, North Carolina, Carl Holland and sister Doris Sargent of Asbury Park, New Jersey.
She was born on April 7, 1945, at the Asbury Park Village in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Saundra graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1963. She married Richard West of Neptune, New Jersey in 1966, and they lived together in Beaufort, South Carolina for several years before locating to Trenton, New Jersey.
Saundra is survived by her husband Richard West of 55 years, daughters, Dr. Charisse F. Smith (Steven) and Jacquelyn West of Trenton, New Jersey. Saundra leaves to cherish hermemory five grandchildren, Kyle West, Zaynah Muhammad, Raven Smith, Satchel Smith, and Jabril Muhammad, four great-grandchildren, son-in-law James Harvin [r., a host of family and friends, and her special caregivers Marcia Flowers and Melinda Phillips.
Saundra was employed by General Electric-Westinghouse, United Progress Incorporated, and retired from the New Jersey State Department of Higher Education Division of Student Loans. She was a respected and loved parishoner of Our Lady of the Divine and Holy Cross Catholic Churches in Trenton, New Jersey.
Saundra was an accomplished baker of specialty cakes for local restaurants, organizations, weddings & birthday parties, friends, and family. Her Signature carrot cake was known far and wide! Saundra enjoyed visiting the casinos of Atlantic City and Las Vegas with friends and family, especially with late special friend Linda Utley. Her home was affectionately called "The West Inn" where Saundra took pride in providing family and friends the warmest hospitality, love, and great food. Saundra's quiet strength was the glue that held her family together. Her willingness to give of herself to her family showed no bounds.
All expressions of sympathy, including flowers, plants, honorary donations to the Parkinson's Foundation, and cards are welcome .
Funeral service will be 11am Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church, 343 S. Broad St., Trenton, NJ 08609. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home.
