Sean Duane Phelps, a lifelong resident of Trenton, NJ, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. Sean was born in Trenton on June 22, 1973, to parents Donna Hammond Phelps and the late Erwin G. Phelps. After graduating from Trenton Central High School in 1992, Sean went on to study at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA. His father, former Director of Medical Security at Anne Klein Forensics Center, hired Sean as a Medical Security Officer. During more than 30 years of dedicated service, Sean rose in rank to Senior Medical Security Officer and was a highly respected colleague who mentored many other officers until his illness.
Sean was a member of Trenton Deliverance Center under the guidance of Pastor Mark A. Broach. He was a founding member of the Hammond Phelps Group benefiting the National Kidney Foundation. Sean enjoyed reading, listening to music, having philosophical discussions, spending time with family and friends, and was a car enthusiast, as well as an avid Eagles fan. He had a quirky sense of humor and an endearing gift of remembering everyone’s birthday. Also, Sean liked to cook and one of his proudest achievements was mastering his grandmother’s famous macaroni and cheese.
Sean was preceded in death by his father, Erwin G. Phelps; grandparents, Vernon H. Hammond, Horace A. Phelps, and Wilma K. Phelps; and uncles, Horace A. Phelps Jr., Reginald V. Phelps, and Rodell Evans.
