Shannon L. Ellis

Shannon L. Ellis was born November 2, 1972 to the late Clyde Hopkins and Betty Ellis-James. The angels of heaven stopped by on December 24th, 2025 and took Shannon to eternal rest.

Shannon was educated in the Trenton Public School system and was previously employed by JC Penny, The State of NJ & Cenlar.

Shannon touched the hearts of many with his warm smile, kind spirit. and the constant support he gave to his family & friends. During his past-time he loved traveling, reading books, listening to all types of music, finding new restaurants, buying clothes & sunglasses. He got the nickname "Secretary of Transportation" because he was always ready to go.

Shannon has always had a passionate love for music and singing. At the early age of 9yrs. he began teaching himself on the keyboard & organ. After watching

Ricky Hairston on Sundays at Mason Memorial church as a young child. Shannon would go home and make sure he played the song exactly like Ricky. At the age of 15 yrs. Shannon began playing the organ & piano for area churches.

He was a member of Craig Hayes & The United Voices, Love Temple Dr. Nancy Spearman Pastor's Choir (his pride & joy), Anthony S. Booker & The Ministry of Praise Power, Gospel Jamboree Inc. and Mason Memorial COGIC. He also served as Minister of Music at Love Temple (Dr. Nancy Spearman), Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church (Rev. Dr. T.L. Steele Sr.) New Beginnings Church & Friendship Baptist Church (Pastor John Taylor), Macedonia Baptist Church (Pastor Keith Marshall), Temple of Praise Sanctuary & Sloan and Company (Pastor Daniel Henderson)

Shannon was predeceased by his father Clyde Hopkins, grandparents Rev. James and Mattie Ellis, Mr & Mrs Theodore Hopkins, his cousin/sister Shonte Ellis 12 uncles & 6 aunts.

Shannon's memory will forever be cherished and remembered by his mother Betty Ellis-James, his brother Elijah James, sisters; Keyana James, Jennette Jones, Joann Hopkins and Jan Edwards. Niece Kiera Oquendo, nephews; Reggie James & Edgar Oquendo, His God-sons Donovan and Daryl Williams, favorite aunt Mary L. Ellis, cousin's Ron, Roz & Matt of Alabama. A host of other relatives & many, many friends.

Funeral service will be 11am Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1300 Greenwood Ave., Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of service at the church.  Interment will be at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing, NJ.
