Shirley Denise Young,age 67, beloved mother,and servant of the Lord, entered eternal rest at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt Holly,NJ, on Friday,January 9, 2026. She was born February 17, 1958, in Mercer County (Trenton, NJ),to the late Allen Dunlap,Jr. and Shirley Ransom.
Shirley was a woman whose warmth, strength, and unwavering faith touched every life she encountered. Shirley was more than a wife,mother,daughter,and sister. She was a beacon of love,a
source of wisdom, and a friend to all. Her laughter could brighten the darkest day,and her caring spirit created a home filled with joy and compassion. Though her earthly journey has ended,her legacy of kindness and grace will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Trenton, J, and a proud graduate of Trenton Central High School,Class of 1977. She continued her education at North Carolina A&T. where she pursued her
passion for learning. She joined Galilee Baptist Church in Trenton, NJ, where she was ordained as a Deaconess. She also attended Wesley AME Zion Church in Burlington, NJ. Her faith was central to her life,and she served her community with grace and dedication. Shirley was a devoted and faithful member of Zipporah Chapter #11. She had the distinguished honor of serving as Worthy Matron from 1996 to 1997, the highest office within the chapter. Throughout her years of service, she gave selflessly of her time, serving on numerous committees including Ways and Means and faithfully fulfilling the role of Assistant Secretary for several years. She was also a member of Khufu Court #118 Daughters and served on various committees.
On August 30, 1980, Shirley married the love of her life, Raymond E. Young. Together, they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage before Raymond went home to be with Christ on September 8, 2024. Their bond was a testament to love and devotion-rarely would you see one without the other. She was formerly employed by Hill Refrigeration and later by the Mercer County Board of Social Services,where she dedicated more than 20 years of service and retired in 2009 as a Human Service Specialist II. She was a devoted caregiver and a loving mother who always put her family first. Her smile,frankness,selflessness,and unwavering strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Along with her husband, Raymond E. Young, and father,Allen Dunlap,Jr., Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Constance Dunlap. Left to cherish her memory: her daughter, LaShana Thompson (Curvy); son, • Raymond Young II; two step daughters, Nicole Garner and Nickelle Moultrie; her mother, Shirley Ransom; her brother, Lloyd Ransom; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law: Shirley Young, Louella Boatwright, Carlette Scott (Darryl), Irene Young, and Deborah Young; two brothers-in-law, W illiam H. Young and Jeffrey Young ( Jasmine); her BFF sisters: Dora Paulus,Jeannette Reese-Bennett,Judy Smith- Adams,Wanda Peterson (affectionately known as The Girls), and Gloria Gordon; her sister/cousin, Sandra McDuffie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Today we celebrate the Homegoing of Shirley Young. W hile she will be missed, we find comfort in the fact that she joins The Lord and her beloved Raymond in eternal life.
Funeral service will be 11am Monday, January 19, 2026 at Galilee Baptist Church Baptist church, 440 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Trenton, NJ 08618. . Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
