Sonya Marlene Burney-Gainey was born on May 7, 1966, at Middlesex Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to Mary A. Gore and Lonza McCall.
She went home to be with the Lord at the age of 59 on September 3, 2025 Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Sonya grew up on New Road in South Brunswick and later resided in Franklin Township, New Jersey. She completed her studies at Franklin High Schc graduating with the Class of 1984. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she went on to earn her degree in Business Administration with a global concentration from University of Phoenix in 2019.
For over 30 years, Sonya faithfully commuted to New York City, where she built remarkable career. Her most notable role was as an Executive Assistant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where she was admired for her professionalism, diligence, and warmth.
A devoted Christian, Sonya's faith was the anchor of her life. She was known as honest realist and a deeply caring woman, always willing to give, even if it me, offering her very last.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Pearl Jones; her brothers, Kre McCall, Kevin McCall, and Eric Ghant; and her sister, Monica Greenfie Ausmoore.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving mother, Mary A. Gore; her three children, Jeffrey Burney (Siobhan), Erikka Sanders (Kory), and Christopher Burm her grandchildren, Ta'Je, Jael, Cornell, Chrisette, Journey, Alex, Jenesys, Kyl Kody, and Jade; her brothers, Shawn Means (Starr) and Bry'an Ghant; and a he of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her in their hear Sonya's legacy is one of love, faith, resilience, and generosity. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family, her strength of character, and h ability to touch the lives of all who knew her.
Viewing will be held at 10am and the funeral service will follow after at 11am Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Abundant Life Family Worship Church,259 George St, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
