Sonya Thornton-Square Obituary

Sonya Thornton-Square was born on August 19, 1952 in Shiloh Valley Township, Illinois.
She answered God's call to eternal life on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Sonya joined the
Wayne Ave Baptist church family
where she participated as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Scholarship
Committee.
Sonya was a lifelong resident of Trenton, New Jersey. She educated in the Trenton Public
School System and graduated from
Trenton Central High School in 1971. She was employed at Trenton Central High School as
a Senior Officer. She worked over
30 years before retiring. She was well known through out Trenton as a mixologist, working
part-time in her
younger years. Family was extremely important to Sonya. Her son, Mark was the love of
her life. God blessed Sonya with a big
heart,
a heart she used to show love to others. She was a mother to many, very loving and caring,
often referred to as
Mom Dukes. She enjoyed shopping and was a fan of the arts.
Sonya was predeceased in death by her husband Rudolph Square, parents Sylvia Young
.9nd Herbert T. Thorton, Sr.and
sister Sandra Thornton.
Sonya leaves to cherish her memory, her son Mark Brooks(Ebony), stepdaughter Adrian
Square; sisters
Linda Thorton Hilliard of Rochester, NY, Yvonne Hopkins of Buffalo, NY, Michelle Young of
dgewater Park, NJ, and
brother Herbert Thornton,Jr.of Brando, Florida; Grandchildren, Jasmine Sample, Marcus
Brooks, Kayla Brooks, Quierra Reed and .
Kevon Young-Square; Great-grands, Jaelyn Sample, Jace Sample, King Santangelo,
Caid d; ap uncle, Thomas Jones; Special Nephews

Saunders and Shimica Mayfield; Special friends Jessie Tossie and Kim Turner and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. .,
TRIBUTE TO MY MOTHER

they're from me. Tell her
that I love and miss her and when she turns to smile. Place a kiss upon her check and hold < •
her for a awhile. Because
remembering her is easy. I do it every day, but there's an ache within my heart that will
