Obituary

Tommie Louis Neal Sr. was born on February 7, 1948 to the late Cartha Jean Gates in Concord, GA and departed this life peacefully on Friday June 17, 2022 in Bordentown, NJ.
 
Tommie relocated to Trenton, NJ at the age of 7, where he was educated in the Trenton Public School System. Tommie was drafted to the U.S. Army in the late 1960s, where he received a Purple Heart and several other medals and certificates while serving in the Vietnam War. After 6 years of service, Tommie was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and returned home to Trenton, NJ.
 
Tommie was employed at Congoleum Corporation and retired in 2017 after over 40 years of service.
 
Tommie enjoyed watching black and white Western themed movies and shows, playing his handheld Poker games, and playing Solitaire. Tommie also loved his treats and snacks, especially Rita’s Water Ice. Tommie was well known for his famous sweet pineapple flavored Ham during holidays and special occasions as well.
 
Tommie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle and enjoyed spending time with family.
 
Tommie was predeceased by his parents Horace and Hassie Neal, 6 sisters, Arsula Gates Head, Betty Jean Gates, Lelia Walker, Betsie Lou Harris, Haralene Cougar, and Betty James.
 
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, whom he adored, Willene Neal of Hamilton, NJ, one son Tommie L. Neal Jr. (Lori) of Trenton, NJ, 2 daughters, Marilyn Gaines (Rodney) of Bordentown, NJ and Cheryl Conover (Richard) of Hamilton, NJ, 8 grandkids, Tommie L. Neal III, Tommire Neal, Alexis Neal, Siedah Meyers (Laquon), Dayvon West (Kiara), Kyarah Richmond, Sydney Conover, and Synai Conover, 2 sisters Glenda Stephen of Lawrence, NJ and Mary Evans of Willingboro, NJ, one brother Ricky Gates (Terry) of Jacksonville, Fl, special niece and nephew Corey and Traci Stephen, and his special great niece/caregiver (Jada West), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

​Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, June ​25, 2022 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
