Ulysses Morton Jr. Obituary

Ulysses R. Morton Jr, affectionately known as “Uley”, was born on January 8th, 1935 to the late Ulysses Morton Sr. and Wilder Morton. He was born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey where he grew up with his siblings Robert Morton and the late Ruth Morton Henry, Sylvester Morton, Marion Morton, and Roger Morton. He was educated in the Florence Township School District and graduated from Florence Township Memorial High School in 1953. It was known that Uley was his name, but football was his game. He was one of the stars of the 1950 championship team and still ranks 9th for career scoring in South Jersey. He attended Virginia State College before joining the Army. During his time in the Army, not only did he serve his country, but he also played football and was named European Back of the Year. In April of 1958, he married his loving wife, Ruby Morton. Together they had a son, Calvin Jeffrey Morton. Uley worked at A & P and later transitioned to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. You could often catch him working on the bridge where you were greeted with a smile. He retired from the toll bridge after many years of service. Uley was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church. He served on the deacon board and blessed many with his voice as part of the male chorus. Uley was a loving husband, father, and friend. He enjoyed being with his family and you could always catch him with his camera by his side. He loved capturing precious moments and memories that will be cherished for many years to come. He was an avid sports fan and loved his favorite football team the Cleveland Browns. Ulysses passed peacefully on October 1, 2022. He leaves to mourn his wife, Ruby Morton. His sons Calvin “Jeff” Morton (Latricia) and Bruce Thompson. His grandchildren Candis Ames-Morton, Calvin Morton Jr., Latitia Orange, Frank Orange, and Kim Orange Jr. His brother Robert Morton, sister-in-law Lottie Morton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. He is forever in our hearts and will truly be missed.
