When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.
Velva Louise Levy came up in the garden of Ciaris Golden and James Mills on the 1st of June 1937 in the district of Wakefield Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies. After 84 years of being a wonderful, loving, giving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend who bought us happiness and love, Velva accepted the angel's invitation to join Our Lord in Paradise on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Capital Health Regional Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Velva was educated in Jamaica. She was the first child of two born to Ciaris and James. Velva attended Hampden All-Age School and later attended the Kelly Lawson Training Center for hotel management. On June 14, 1989, she migrated to the United States to join her sister Laurine and brother-in-law Clifton in New Jersey along with the youngest of her seven children, Darnette Levy-Hall. It did not take Velva long after settling in, to begin working to bring her family together, as her husband, 6 children, and grandchildren joined within the next few years.
Velva worked at Merrill Lynch Conference and Training Center in housekeeping for 20 years before retiring to care for her sick husband and daughter. A few years later, she began working at the Genesis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she worked for about five years before retiring as she found more joy in helping to babysit her great-granddaughter Maci and being home with her family. Velva enjoyed dancing, cooking, watching her favorite shows, crossword puzzle books, reading her bible, and spending time with family and friends.
Her passing has cast a sheet of sadness over her entire family and friends. We thought we had more time and did not know she would leave us so soon.
Velva was predeceased by her husband Joshua, daughters Marcia and (Dorothy) Moyie, sister Lorraine, two grandsons Dwayne and Garnette; thus leaving her 5 children Horace (daughter-in-law Clara), Dorothy (Polly), Valentine, Angela, and Darnette (son-in-law Albert Hall); brother-in-law Clifton, 19 grand-children, 18 great-grandchildren, I grcat-great-grandchild a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and loved
