Vilicia Golden Obituary

Vilicia J. Golden, the daughter of the late Cleveland Christopher Jones and Viola Gibson Jones, was born in Richmond, Va. on April 19, 1939. She was educated in the Richmond
Public School System. After graduating from Maggie Walker High School, she went on to pursue her education at the Medical College of Virginia to be an x-ray technician. She became certified on December I, 1960, by the American Registry of X -Ray Technicians.

After graduating from school, she came to Trenton to visit her uncle. She liked Trenton so much, she decided to stay. Vilicia met then married John Golden, Jr. on September 10, 1960. They were married for 60 years. From this union, she had two children John and Kimberley. Vilicia, affectionately known as "Vee" loved her husband, children, granddaughter and great grandchildren. Vee was a loyal friend that would stand by her friends when times were tough to give support. There were always gatherings at their home, where she showcased her cooking skills. We'll miss her jelly cake, pound cake, cornbread sausage stuffing and' yeast rolls, just to name a few. Vee loved to sew, crochet, and make arts and crafts. She was an avid reader and loved to travel with her family. Vee was her husband's biggest supporter and loved him with all her heart.

Vilicia worked as an x-ray technician at the old Trenton General Hospital located on Clinton Ave in Trenton for many years before transferring to the newly built Hamilton Hospital, where she worked in the capacity of Supervisor of the X -ray Department. She was the first Black woman to run the department. After 26 years of service, she retired from the hospital and went to work at Deborah Heart and Lung for an additional 15 years.

Vee loved to laugh and could tell a story that would have you in stitches. She loved the Lord and was a long-standing member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Trenton, NJ. Always kind, she donated generously to various charitable organizations especially St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Wounded Warriors and St. Joseph's Indian School. Her home was always warm and open to those she loved and knew.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Golden, Jr.; parents, Cleveland and Viola Jones; sister, Eva Word; brothers, Theodore, Cleveland and Sylvester Jones.

She is survived by her son, John Tremaine Golden (Angela); daughter, Kimberley Ann Golden; granddaughter, Bianca Watkins Golden; great grandsons Gabriel Vasquez Watkins and Bryson Watkins; a special niece Ruby Cook (Henry); special cousin, Martha Black (Douglas); her caregiver, Helen Good, and a host of family and friends.
