William J. Roberson was born July 3, 1932 in Hale County to the late Susie and William Roberson. He departed this life at the age of 88 on February 20, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, New Jersey.
Deacon Roberson was educated in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from Mobile County High School. He attended Twenty Century Business College.
He served two years in the Army from March 18, 1953 to March 17, 1955. He married Laura Turner in 1955.
William was employed at Mobile, Alabama Air Force Base where he worked on missiles. He was transferred to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, where he
was employed as a hydraulic mechanic, working on military planes. William retired from the Federal Government after 30 years of employment. He worked for a short time for the Board of Education in Hamilton Township.
Deacon Roberson joined Friendship Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon on January 25, 1987 under the leadership of Reverend Willie J. Sanders.
He was preceded in death by a sister Rosa Lee Mose; two brothers James and Arthur Roberson.
Deacon Roberson leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Laura Roberson of Hamilton, NJ; one daughter Latonya Finney of Mobile, AL; three grandchildren Tony, Troy; special grandchild Wyconda (Chapman) all of Mobile, AL; one sister Susie William of Boston, MA; three brothers Leroy and Charles both of Mobile, AL and George (Evelyn) of Birmingham, AL; a special niece Kim Hernandez (Hiram) of Manhattan, NY; a special great granddaughter Chloe of Mobile, AL; a special great grandson T.]. of Mobile, AL; four great grandchildren and two great great
grandchildren; a family friend/neighbor Michael and Denise Newkirk; a godson Rodney Thompson (Tracey) both lawyers of Trenton, NJ; two sisters-in-law Fannie Dancy and Mary Mitchell both of Manhattan, NY; a brother-in-law Coleman Turner of Mobile, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be 9-11am Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
