William Ward Obituary

William Thomas “Tom” Ward was born on April 26, 1953 to Washington and the late Evelyn Ward in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  He entered eternal rest, on Sunday, September 6, 2020.

Tom grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was a painter by trade.  He married his teenage sweetheart, Robin, and eventually settled with her in her hometown of Trenton, New Jersey.  He remained married to her for twenty-seven years, until her passing in 1999.  Tom held no punches and always spoke his mind.  He was quick witted and humorous.  Most conversations with Tom included a wisecrack and a laugh.  Guess that’s where his girls got it from.  He loved to watch Sanford and Son and the news.  He was a New York Giants fan, much to the annoyance of his daughters, the Eagles fans.  Tom was a strong family man.  He moved back to Virginia Beach where he helped to care for his aging father with his older brother Red.  They were a team in taking care of their father.  Tom was Red’s baby brother and best friend.  Although Tom was a seven-hour drive away, he never missed an important milestone in his grandchildren’s lives.  He would always drive up for graduations and other important events.  Tom also traveled to New Jersey to put flowers at his wife’s grave on each birthday and wedding anniversary after her passing.  His grandchildren never missed a birthday card from “Pop-Pop” that always included a few dollars to celebrate.  Tom kept in constant contact with his daughters with ritual phone calls on certain days of the week, and even some phone calls in between.  They were “Daddy’s girls” to say the least.  And even though Tom was not cellphone savvy, he would still ask for text pictures of other family members, especially the children, which he probably wouldn’t figure out how to open until about a week later.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Robin Johnson Ward, his mother Evelyn Owens Ward, and his brothers Herbert Ward, Sr. and Carnell Ward.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Leneki “Nikki” Ward Mosgrove and LaShaunna Ward Love, grandchildren Arianna Mosgrove, Cahil Love, Jr., Robert Love, Sean Love and Camryn Love, his father Washington “Ham” Ward, brothers Vernon “Speedy” Butts and Robert “Red” Ward, Sr., son-in-law Cahil Love, Sr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
